It is my second morning in Morocco.
I was a bit of a recluse yesterday. I barely left my apartment. I indulged in sleep, sleep, and more sleep, and I spent the rest of the day cleaning and unpacking. Three of my suitcases are empty now, and tucked away in my closet until the next big adventure.
No, that’s not true. I won’t need my suitcases for the next big adventure. Today I’m going to leave my apartment and take a walk around the campus. If I have the nerve, I’ll sign out one of the weird cars that I’ve never heard of, and practice my starting and stopping before the campus begins to fill up with people. I’ll check out the common room and see if I can scavenge some cushions for my living room. I’ll deal with that dead roach that I simply avoided yesterday. And I might just seek out some people and say hello.
That sounds like plenty of adventure for one day, don’t you think? Tomorrow the rest of the new staff arrives and orientation begins, and that will be excitement enough for the day. One little step at a time, I’m settling in and branching out.
